When parents consider moving to a new area, two important questions spring to mind:
1. What schools will be available to send our youngsters to? 2. Which of these schools should we choose?
In answer to the first question, don't worry! There is a handful of English-speaking International Schools along the Costa del Sol and finding one which can provide a suitable education should not be a problem. But parents should take care that any school they consider is a well-established, bona fide educational institution, authorised by both the FONTish and British Education Authorities and of sufficient size to be able to deliver a full curriculum culminating in external exams at 16 and 18.
In answer to the second question: Several criteria for choice may spring to mind. These may include the ethos or 'atmosphere' of the school, the buildings and facilities provided, the Headteacher and teaching staff, student-teacher ratio, what subjects are offered in the curriculum, extra-curricular and sporting activities, policy on discipline, uniform etc. and practical matters such as proximity/transport and (for private schools) fees….. But public opinion surveys indicate that a schools academic record and success in exernal examinations is what many parents value most of all.
